Tell Us What Hurts
Tennis elbow
Inflammation of the tendon on the outside of the elbow due to repetitive flexing and bending of the wrist; causes burning pain and weak grip strength.
Golfer's elbow
Similar to Tennis elbow, Golfer's elbow causes pain on the inside of the elbow. You might also experience pain in the forearm and wrist.
Rotator cuff strain
Inflammation of the muscles and tendons of the front or back of the shoulder; often an overuse injury from work or in sports with repetitive overhead arm movements.
Subluxation of the shoulder
Also known as shoulder instability, this overuse injury is caused by repeated stretching and tearing of the shoulder ligaments, which results in looseness and allows the top of the arm bone to slip out of place (although it is not a full shoulder dislocation).

Ankle sprain
Results from torn lateral ligaments of the ankle; common in sports with rapid directional change or from a fall that twists the ankle.
Achilles tendon injuries
Injury to the tendon that runs along the back of the ankle, including Achilles tendinitis (when the tendon becomes swollen and painful near the bottom of your foot) and Achilles tendon rupture (a partial or complete tear of the tendon).
Turf toe
When the ligaments in the big toe become sprained, resulting in pain and swelling. Turf Toe is often associated with football and various other sports.

Wrist sprain
Most frequently caused by an unexpected fall.
Jammed finger
An injury to the finger that results in pain and swelling at the joint and makes it difficult to bend your finger.
Finger fracture
An impact injury with symptoms that include pain, tenderness over the bone, and possible deformity.
“Mallet” Finger
An impact injury on the tip of the finger that prevents you from holding your finger tip out straight.
“Skiers Thumb”
A tear of the ligament in the thumb that causes pain and instability in your thumb when holding an object.

Knee sprains or ACL injury
Common injuries include damage to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), lateral collateral ligament (LCL), and medial collateral ligament (MCL). Symptoms include pain, bruising, swelling, difficulty moving the knee, or feeling unstable on your affected leg.
Torn knee cartilage
A torn meniscus (cartilage) often happens in contact sports, but can happen to anyone. Symptoms include a grating or popping sound when moving, knee stiffness, reduced range of motion, instability of the knee, swelling, and increased pain when putting pressure on the knee.
Dislocated kneecap
Occurs when the bones around the knee are partially or completely shifted out of place. Symptoms include feeling your knee give out, sudden and severe pain and swelling, a bump on the outside of the knee, and bruising.
Hip or knee bursitis
Injury caused by repetitive motion or by positions that put pressure on the cushion around your bones, tendons and muscles near your joints, known as bursae. This injury is common in American football players, soccer players, and hockey players. Symptoms include feeling achy or stiff, increased pain with pressure or movement, and swelling or redness at the affected joint.

Neck sprain
Results from sudden movement or a hard impact. Symptoms include pain that increases over time or with movement, muscle spasms in the upper shoulders, headaches, and neck stiffness.
Whiplash
Injury by a powerful impact that causes the head and neck to abruptly move back and forth. Symptoms include neck pain, stiffness, dizziness, headache, limited neck movement, and a tingling, numbing, burning, or prickling sensation.
Lower back injury
Pain in the lower back from repetitive twisting (such as in golf), impact (such as in running), or weightlifting.
Upper back injury
More common in sports that rotate the torso such as weight training, swimming, golf, tennis, and skiing.

Fractures or breaks can occur in just about any bone. Usually there will be significant pain and the affected limb may look misaligned.
Broken bones are treated as a medical emergency and require a visit to the Emergency Department for X-rays, diagnosis, and immobilization, with follow-up care by an orthopaedist.
Minor breaks which do not break the skin can be treated at Urgent Care.
