Evangelical Awards DAISY Honor to Kiera Robinson, RN, BSN

December 27, 2023

Kiera Robinson, RN, BSN, was recently presented the DAISY Award at Evangelical Community Hospital. The award is presented to a deserving nurse who exemplifies clinical expertise and compassionate care and is recognized as a role model in the nursing community.

Robinson was nominated for the award by brothers, John and Jay Gordon, for the care provided to their mother, Joan, in her final day of life.

Robinson was presented the award surrounded by her fellow coworkers, Hospital and Nursing leadership, her family, and the family who nominated her for the award.

In the nomination, John Gordon shared, “How do you put a value on kindness, gentleness, care and compassion, tenderness and solitude? Kiera cared for my mom in the last few hours of her life, as if she were her own grandmother.”

Gordon continued, “I know my mom felt safe with her. She would hold my mom’s hand or touch her shoulder as she spoke to her. Never in a rush, consistently focused on kindly connecting with my mom. Kiera always explained what she was doing. In addition, my brother and I, and later my son, were also recipients of Kiera’s compassionate care. She made us feel safe and loved in a very difficult situation.”
In closing, Gordon said, “Kiera and her stellar care were quite literally a profound, beautiful, and precious gift from God. We will never forget her.”

Robinson is familiar to Evangelical Community Hospital. She was a paid intern at the Hospital through the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) program in 2017. In December 2022, Robinson returned to Evangelical as an agency RN serving on the Intermediate Care Unit and continues to choose the Hospital on a longer-term traveling basis as her place of service.
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 in California by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications of an auto-immune disease. During his eight-week hospital stay, his family was impressed by the care and compassion his nurses provided, not only to him but to everyone in the family. They created the DAISY Award in his memory to recognize those nurses who make a big difference in the lives of so many people.

Evangelical is proud to be a DAISY Award partner. Nurses are nominated by patients, family members of patients, as well as other healthcare professionals. Nominations are presented for consideration through a process of anonymity. The winner is then selected by a board of healthcare workers. Each DAISY Award Honoree is given a DAISY Award pin, a certificate of honor, a gift card from Service First Federal Credit Union, and a stone sculpture entitled, A Healer’s Touch, handcrafted by a tribe in Zimbabwe.

Nominations for the DAISY award can be made by patients, patient family members, colleagues, and providers. If an Evangelical Community Hospital nurse has displayed extraordinary clinical expertise and compassion, visit www.DAISYnomination.org/ECH and fill out a nomination form.
