Evangelical Community Hospital Presents ORchid Award to Lexis Vazquez

May 15, 2024

Surgical Services at Evangelical Community Hospital recently presented its ORchid Award for outstanding performance to Lexis Vazquez, Environmental Services Technician at the Evangelical Ambulatory Surgical Center (EASC).

The quarterly award is designed to recognize staff members who are vital to a successful surgical experience but are often not seen because what they do is done while the patient is sedated or asleep, takes place prior to or after surgery, or is done behind the scenes.

Lexis Vazquez, Environmental Services Technician, was presented the award on May 7, 2024, by Daphyne Ressler, RN, MSN, BSN, CCHM, CPPS, Director, Medical Ambulatory Surgery and Endoscopy.

Vazquez received two separate nominations from her coworkers. The first noted, “Recently, the EASC had 28 cases between three operating rooms and two endoscopy suites. Lexis was the only EVS Tech available to work that day. She reported promptly to every room and helped keep the room turnovers under 10 minutes. Her positive attitude and work ethic on one of our busiest days helped keep the team on time and our patients satisfied with their care. “

“Hiring Lexis as our EVS Tech has been a fabulous addition to our already great team,” the second nomination stated. “Anytime an operating room calls down from a case, Lexis is there promptly to assure the room is cleaned properly and ready for the next case. When she has downtime out in the post-anesthesia care unit area, she is always willing to help provide snacks and drinks to patients. She is a people person and loves interacting with patients and their families.”

Vazquez began working as an Environmental Services Technician at the EASC in March 2023. Employees receiving the award exhibit qualities and behaviors that represent the Hospital’s core values of quality, service, respect, compassion, integrity, creativity, professionalism, and cooperation.

The ORchid award is presented in front of the recipient’s nominators, the executive leadership team, and members of the surgical team with whom they work. Awardees receive an orchid that symbolizes the award (purple orchids represent dignity, respect, and admiration), a pin, and a food party for the team they work with.
