Like every hopeful parent, the childbirth experts at The Family Place anticipate – and do everything possible to ensure – that each pregnancy will result in the birth of a healthy child. Sadly, there are times when that hope is not fulfilled.

Bereavement Care and Counseling

The Family Place provides sensitive, compassionate care to those who have lost their babies before, during, or immediately after birth. Through our Perinatal Loss program, nurses who have specialized training in bereavement counseling offer comfort and support. They also provide parents with a special memory box to honor the life of their baby. The box contains photos of their baby as well as several mementos.

Empty Arms Support Group

To provide additional support and comfort to parents and families as they grieve the loss of a baby, WellSpan Evangelical’s bereavement counselors developed this special support group. Please call 570-768-3200 if you would like more information about Empty Arms. Register to attend a support group meeting.

Memorial Garden

WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital offers a special place to remember babies lost before, during, or after birth. The Memorial Garden offers a peaceful setting, beautiful plantings, and a walking path designed to encourage relaxation and reflection. A special plaque within the garden honors these babies. For more information about the Memorial Garden, please call Evangelical Community Hospital Foundation at 570-522-2685.
