Evangelical Community Hospital Imaging Services Recognized for Lung Cancer Screening and Detection
June 26, 2024
Lewisburg, Pa. — Evangelical Community Hospital, through Imaging services at the Hospital and the Selinsgrove Imaging Center, has been recognized for its efforts in lung cancer screening and detection. The Hospital recently received two distinct designations for access to lung cancer services.
“The Hospital is dedicated to providing patients with the highest quality care at both the main Hospital and Selinsgrove Imaging Center locations,” said Jeffrey Nolter, BA, CNMT, NMTCB-CT, RT (R)(N), Director of Imaging Services, Evangelical Community Hospital. “Low dose CT screening is currently the only proven method to detect lung cancer at the earliest, most treatable stage. We are thrilled to be part of this elite group, setting an example for responsible screening practices across the country.”
Designated Lung Cancer Screening Center
The Hospital and the Selinsgrove Imaging Center have been designated a Lung Cancer Screening Center by the American College of Radiology® (ACR®).
The ACR Lung Cancer Screening Center designation is a voluntary program that recognizes facilities that have committed to practice safe, effective diagnostic care for individuals at the highest risk for lung cancer.
In order to receive this elite distinction, facilities must be accredited by the ACR in computed tomography in the chest module, as well as undergo a rigorous assessment of its lung cancer screening protocol and infrastructure. Also required are procedures in place for follow-up patient care, such as counseling and smoking cessation programs.

Center of Excellence in Lung Cancer Screening
The Hospital and its imaging offerings on the main campus and the Selinsgrove Imaging Center have been named a Center of Excellence (COE) by GO2 for Lung Cancer (GO2) for its ongoing commitment to providing the community with patient-centered, evidence-based lung cancer screening. An estimated 237,000 Americans are diagnosed with lung cancer annually, with most being found at an advanced stage of the disease. As a result, lung cancer has long been the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. By screening individuals at high risk for lung cancer using low dose computed tomography (LDCT), this disease can now be found early, when it is most treatable and even curable.
GO2 COEs designated in lung cancer screening are committed to the principles of patient-centered communication and decision making across the entire care pathway. They implement screening in accordance with current evidence and clinical guidelines developed by professional bodies such as the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), and they coordinate patient follow-up, diagnostics, and transition to treatment through a multidisciplinary clinical process.
In addition to receiving this newly awarded designation as a Center of Excellence in Lung Cancer Screening, the Hospital and the Selinsgrove Imaging Center are also recognized by GO2 as a Center of Excellence in:
- Cancer Care, for demonstrating access to standard cancer services within medical and surgical oncology and pathology.
- Incidental Pulmonary Nodules, for providing a structured program that captures incidentally found lung nodules from imaging, with a standardized process for patient follow-up and reporting across the health system.
- Smoking Cessation, for consistently supplying evidence-based smoking cessation services and information across the lung cancer continuum.
- Multidisciplinary Team, for providing a patient-centric multidisciplinary team comprised of a cancer navigator or coordinator and a minimum of three lung cancer disciplines that meet at a regularly scheduled tumor board.
- Community Engagement, for participating in community outreach to expand lung cancer awareness and education.
Equity, for demonstrating an approach to lung cancer care that considers diversity, health equity and inclusion for all community members.
