National Senior Health and Fitness Day Being Held Wednesday, May 29, 2024

Evangelical Community Hospital’s Community Health and Wellness is holding National Senior Health and Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from 9 am-noon at The Miller Center, 120 Hardwood Drive, Lewisburg. The event is graciously sponsored by Asbury RiverWoods.

This local offering of the event is part of the Annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day celebrations going on across the United States. On the last Wednesday in May, more than 100,000 seniors will participate in local health and wellness events at 1,000+ locations across the country. It is designed to provide an overview of resources available in the local community specifically for older adults with the common goal of keeping healthy and fit.

This free health fair-style event is open to the public and individuals are invited to attend the entire time or stop in for a quick visit. The day will include a variety of activities and informational opportunities, including the chance to speak to individuals with organizations from the community who can be resources for needs of older adults. Those present can speak one-on-one about their offerings and many will be providing informational and promotional takeaways.

Taryn Wilk, Wellness Educator, Evangelical Community Health and Wellness, will present “Healthy Living for Your Body and Brain” at 10:15 am. This informative workshop from the Alzheimer's Association® covers several areas of lifestyle habits that are associated with healthy aging. Discussion will be had on what is known, drawing on research, and what can be done for body and brain health. Participants will create a personalized action plan to incorporate lifestyle choices that may keep bodies and brains healthy during the aging journey. Registration is required and can be done at www.EvanHospital.com/Wellness360.

The following FREE screenings are available, no registration required:

  • Blood pressure
  • Blood glucose
  • Bone density
  • Memory and cognitive impairment screening with the Alzheimer’s Association®
  • Lipids – a 12-hour fast is recommended.
