Non-Invasive Vascular Testing
Ultrasound Testing of Blood Vessels in the Abdomen
- Aorta and iliac duplex testing (of vessels in the heart and pelvis)
- Mesenteric duplex testing (of vessels in the membrane that attaches the small intestines to the abdominal wall)
- rRnal duplex testing (of vessels in the kidneys)
Evaluation of Arteries in the Extremities
- Direct ultrasound studies
- Indirect doppler pressure and waveform testing (with the patient at rest and after treadmill exercise)
- Dialysis access duplex testing
Evaluation of Veins in the Extremities
- Doppler ultrasound exams (which uses sound waves to show blood flow)
- Plethysmography (to measure changes in blood volume within an organ or limb)
- D-dimer blood test (to check for blood-clotting problems)
Evaluation of Blood Vessels of the Brain
- Carotid and vertebral duplex ultrasound (measuring blood flow to the brain)
- Transcranial doppler (measuring the speed of blood flow within the brain)
Invasive Vascular Testing
- Arteriography/angiography (to view the inside of blood vessels)
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guided angiography
- Computed tomography (CT) guided angiography
- Venography (which uses contrast material to measure blood flow through the veins)
